Craniosacral Therapy for Toddlers

aka CST for Moving Bodies

The purpose of this course is to provide opportunities for Craniosacral therapists to explore working with moving bodies, and to learn techniques and practices that provide opportunities for moving kids to receive Craniosacral therapy.  This class is specifically for kids who are crawling until about age 5-7, this is a very fluid age range depending more on ability or desire to be on a massage table.

Working with moving kids is a lot different than working with infants or adults.

Support, Self Exploration, Practice, and Passion

In my 25 years of teaching I have found that teaching smaller chunks of information over a longer period of time creates a more embodied and effective learning environment. I focus on supporting each student with their personal learning goals, and self exploration of their personal scope of practice - what they want to offer their clients and the world. I teach techniques and give opportunities for practice, and help to stoke your passion to make lasting change in our world.

Toddlers are learning about their space in the World/Field through movement.

How can we do CST in their field to help their development as an individual, and as a part of the whole?

Working with moving bodies is a dance, a conversation of movement between you and the child.

How can we initiate or encourage a story to be told by the moving body?

Then how can we engage with that movement to help create space and encourage optimal functioning?

In this course we will:

  • explore what a moving body session looks like

  • learn how to speak to parents about what a session looks like

  • explore how to work with a child that refuses to be touched

  • practice working on cranial restrictions from the foot or other part of the body

  • learn how to use props, and techniques for initiating contact

  • explore unwinding with a moving body

  • explore how to create the physical space for working with moving bodies

  • practice non verbal communicating in the field - child, parent, and you

  • explore emotional/behavioral aspects - working with kids with attention, emotional and behavioral difficulties

  • practice giving space and acceptance for emotional expression

  • explore your feelings of working with moving bodies, and how to create a scope of practice that works best for you

  • clarify expectations - opening possibilities for what a moving body session looks like, and helping the parents understand this

How does the child react to movements that you initiate in the field?

How do you interpret the child’s movements?

What does the body need?

How do you engage with the movement effectively for you and the child?

How do you swing with the mandible?

How do you soar with the sphenoid?

I believe that the best way to learn this work is to do it and receive support and guidance in real time. Which is why I am including supervision and case review in this course over 3 months, I believe that this will be the best way for you to learn. In helping you to create your moving body practice and solidify your policies and boundaries, you can create a truly trustworthy and effective practice for you and your clients. I will be available to you via email during this 3 months.

Working with toddlers and kids that are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties can be very triggering and difficult, as well as wonderful and exciting. By exploring your own feelings and experiences, and creating a solid framework around this work will be beneficial for all, and will keep you doing this work for a long time.

My experience working as a foster care caseworker, a special education teacher and a bodyworker for the last 25 years has given me a lot of experience in how to create a practice that works for you, gives you the satisfaction and space that is needed to be YOU in your work, and to help the people that you desire to work with.

Upcoming class - Working with kids experiencing ADHD and other behavioral difficulties. This course will go more in depth about how to address these issues within your scope of practice, and make real change for these kids and their families.
